When you arrive at the Ex-hacienda, you’ll find a great property surrounded by corn fields. The property doesn’t belong to anyone right now and is part of the town.

The place is prominent with different stages from a small church like in old times, several rooms, a fountain, pig barn. It could probably be much bigger, but some had lost with time.

There is no record of the date of the construction, but I think it is from 400 years ago in the XVI century not sure about the end of the building.

Ghost stories and Gold from the Ex-Hacienda.

Local people tell two stories of the Ex-Hacienda of Caxcantla, one with a villain and the other with money.

1. There was a priest that lived in the place called father Garcia; if he loved a girl, he robbed and raped them; those girls would only be for his eyes; if the girls got pregnant, the babies would eat by pigs that were on the back of the Hacienda, and no one will ever find anything. That is part of the legend. I am unsure if it was confirmed, but it is a terrible situation.

He made a pact with a demon that every night, he would make paper coins that would become Gold once the sunlight came; the guardian of this Gold was a black that, until this day, walks the Hacienda. If you encounter him, he will ask you “all or nothing.”

If you take all the Gold, you can keep it; if not, your soul will stay there. This legend makes the place more mysterious. It is an excellent touch to the area’s vibe; many people visit the site and want to live the experience of being there for a few hours.

2. The other story was during the revolution of Mexico. President Venustiano Carranza, president of Mexico, and in the last year of his presidency, left Mexico City and, leaving the city, he took money to continue with his presidency. He had to pass on a train through the town of Aljojuca; part of the Gold that he carried was deposited there, so in a rush to leave all behind, and people would miss him, he set the amount of the Gold in the Hacienda and leave it there. However, unfortunately, he didn’t survive, and later, he has killed in Tlaxcalantongo, a remote town.

People believe that the money president Venustiano carried on the train to keep his presidency was found in this place; a military expedition was the one that found the Gold. They dug and searched all the Ex-Hacienda, and some say that they found the Gold, but nothing is clear about it, and there is more mystery about the end of the money of the nation of Mexico.

Ex-Hacienda now.

The place is full of architectural details and beautiful parts of an old era in Mexico. The area is vast, and you need more than a few hours to pay attention to all. There is art on the walls of the Ex-Hacienda it looks more like a painting on some of the walls, and you can only imagine in the golden days of this place how magnificent it could look.

Some rooms are around the place on two floors, and it surrounds the fountain on the central patio, the site seems so big with many places to admire, and now with vegetation, it is not easy to see or imagine how it could look.

Nature is slowly reclaiming the place, and it feels that it could survive another decade, but time will have the last word.

There are two more structures on the back of the pig barns, and people still try to look for something that could be left there, maybe a gold coin, because there are many holes on the ground inside the pig barns.

The other is a big pit, maybe kind of a pool it is so big, and it could have so much water in it now it is full of grass and maybe animals next to it more rooms, but it is kind of difficult what the purpose of those rooms.

When you arrive and see the structure, it surprises you; the extension of the property is vast.

You can only dream in these places, but being there changes your perspective and how things used to be long ago.

It is a place you must visit and consider if you appreciate the architecture or maybe ghost stories.
