Mole Poblano.
One of the most traditional plates in Mexico is Mole. The nuns of the Convent of Santa Rosa create the Mole. This museum is where the recipe for the Mole was born.
The site has its tradition and mystery, but that is not only what this place has. Many rooms show the passing of time and the elegance of those days.
The museum is big and has many places to admire and see. Some bedrooms had changed so they could show exhibitions and other art.
What would you Find?
The entrance to the museum is on the 3rd north in the center of Puebla. The church is the temple of Santa Rosa de Lima between 12 Pte and 3rd north.
The access takes you to the small backyard, and the tour begins immediately. It starts with the kitchen of the abbey, covered with tiles of Talavera, the famous pottery of the state.
The kitchen is most beautiful because it resembles the old architecture from the XVII century. Several people can use the kitchen simultaneously, like in ancient times.
Just imagine the smell. Only Spaniards can use the kitchen. The indigenous women only served as maids, and the elaboration of food was only allowed to the nuns.
Near the kitchen was a big room without windows. The room has perfect isolation that serves as a refrigerator. Next to the kitchen was the dining room. Big enough for all the nuns.
Most of the things they had were gifts from the nuns’ families and patrons that helped the convent. Some wealthy families pay so the nuns can be there.
The architecture of the whole museum is exquisite. Rooms with a vibe that brings you to another era. If you have the opportunity to visit this place, please do it.
What about the rest?
There are other rooms that the museum preserves. As I was telling you guys, there is a big dining room. They have exhibitions of several art forms, and in one, they show the recipe of Mole.
It has several back yards, both with fountains that also purpose to be used as water containers back in ancient times. Many rooms on the abbey are used in other ways these days.

The first floor is more of an extensive exhibition with the rooms divided. The floor was used more as a common area for the use of the nuns. You can only imagine the vastity of the place.
On the Second floor, you will explore the nuns’ rooms and some areas you would not believe if you were not there.
Two rooms caught my attention. One is the principal room and the room for caring for the sick nuns.
A particular space felt more like part of a prison. In this room, the nuns can be present on Sunday days. They have a fence with big holes so they can listen and be present on Sunday. The fence’s purpose was to be used as a balcony. Nuns can’t get out of the abbey. It was prohibited.
Through the fence, they can participate with the community. One participant was to be the chorus of the church.
The Passing time of the abbey.
The abbey changes several times the usage. One event that closed the use of the monastery by nuns was a declaration by President Benito Juarez that properties in possession of the catholic church would be part of the government, nuns evicted, and they would not return. Then the abbey was part of a warehouse and a neighborhood.
The government reclaimed the property as a museum and gave the property and history of the state of Puebla a new beginning.

Legends inside the Museum.
The museum has a lot of things that you can see and admire. One thing that you will not believe is that the place has legends.
Maybe you dont believe in ghosts and dead people, but they are present for those who serve as tour guides and guards. Sounds that are hard to explain, shadows that pass, and other things that are hard to explain are also part of the museum.
