The Carnival back in San Pedro Cholula.

After two years, the Carnival of San Pedro Cholula started again. The Carnival is a small celebration of a big festival in the town of Huejotzingo. It begins before the holy week.

Two years and many things happened to people around the world. The music, joy,, and folklore from around the world shut down.

It cost many lives and what we used to be. Now everything is trying to get back to what was before this pandemic.

Now people are returning to get what was taken away from them. Some people need to get back to the life they used to have, but others want you to forget that this could be a memory of the past.

Everything has changed the future seems bright; with caution and prevention, all appears to be a little bit more what it used to be. This type of event makes people think that everything will be all right.

What is it about?

The Carnival represents the invasion of the french army to Mexico; it is a show. The army passes through this town. In San Pedro and Huejotzingo, there is a story that both cities have in common, the same level here; the story develops more shortly than in Huejotzingo because the story and celebrations last a whole week.

This Carnival is the beginning of the celebration of the battle of the 5th of May in Puebla. One of the most known celebrations in the world is celebrated in the state of Puebla.

The participants set the best mood even if you hear some booms here and there. Tourists from Mexico and other parts of the world come to participate in the event and the whole festivities. It starts at 9 am and lasts until 7 pm you can be with them the entire celebration and some celebrate the headquarters later.

A Love Story.

It is a small Carnival compared with the town of Huejotzingo, but it is relevant too because they share similarities in the representation of the Carnival.

The main event is a love story; like in Romeo and Juliet, the daughter was going to get married to a general, and the lover married her secretly.

The story ends with burning love; the couple dies on fire after they got burned inside a small house where they hid until discovered (but that is what is said, so there was a hope that they could survive well, maybe I want there).

The sounds of the muskets, music from the bands, and street vendors are again in the air.

For the whole family

There are many participants, from bands that go with the battalions to small children that are part of the neighborhood. Here they participated from whole communities, children and women.

These days, you will see women dressed as members of the battalions, and with the masks, you will not know who they are.

The uniforms are expensive, and people invest time decorating their uniforms. It also depends on how you dress and what type of battalion you are in, so you must dress accordingly. Some of the masks are with movement, and the price can increase the whole outfit. The uniform price could be around 15 thousand d pesos or USD 750. The most expensive is the mask.

Children do not all wear masks; some only use uniforms until they grow up; they could use masks; others can have covers,, but dont wear them. It is hard to keep the mask.

 

Celebration of 2022

The dance and sounds of the muskets cover the whole day until night, bands playing and people happy.

After what happened two years ago is good to be back on the streets, taking photos and watching people enjoy the event.
